Classroom Management Basics -- food for though or talking points

Nothing Changes Overnight or In Just a Few Sessions.

You must let changes take effect over time.

While you may tweak what you are doing as you go along,

the basic plan should be tried for at least 3-4 weeks.

Be Consistent
Whatever management system you intend to use, must be used consistently so students
can anticipate routines, procedures and both positive and negative consequences.
Be sure you follow through with ALL students.

Build Relationships with Students.
Do you respond better to a stranger telling you what to do or asking you questions?
or Do you respond better to someone you know, have something in common with or
where you feel a kinship or rapport?

Help Students Create Attainable Goals
When students are not successful academically or behaviorally, chunk the task.
Help them by breaking skills or behaviors into attainable goals, moment by moment,
minute by minute, ¼ hour by ¼ hour. Whatever is needed.
